Dear Members

As we turn the page into a new racing season, there is an air of renewed excitement and anticipation. The thrill of what lies ahead is matched by the pride we feel in celebrating the champions of the season just passed.

On August 14th, we had the privilege of celebrating our Equus Champions at a glittering event hosted at Hollywoodbets Greyville. It was a fitting occasion to honour those whose hard work, talent, and commitment culminate in true excellence. The evening reminded us all of the dedication and passion that drives our industry. On Women’s Day, August 9th, we joined hands with Avroy Shlain and 4Racing for a special celebration at Turffontein. Our sincere thanks go to Avroy Shlain for their valued sponsorship. The event was not only a celebration of women in racing but also a reflection of our shared values: empowerment, recognition, and opportunity. It was inspiring to honour the remarkable contributions of women in our sport, and we look forward to more opportunities where the power of partnership can create meaningful impact. In keeping with the theme of Women’s month, we are very proud to announce that Pippa Mickleburgh is our ROA Owner of the Month. Click here for more on Pippa and her new journey.

We recently celebrated our ROA Life Member Raceday, where we expressed our heartfelt gratitude to those who have supported the Association so loyally over the years. Their lifelong commitment is a reminder that this journey is not only about racing but also about community and shared passion. We feature Chris Haynes as our ROA Life Member of the Month.

We are also delighted to note the launch of this year’s Betway Summer Cup theme – Jozi Rising. This exciting campaign is set to capture the energy, passion, and resilience that define Johannesburg, and we look forward to seeing it come to life on one of the most celebrated days on our racing calendar. This month, the BSA 2-Year-Old Sale was another success, and it was encouraging to see such strong participation. The ROA was proud to be present, engaging with new owners and welcoming them into our family. These moments are vital, as they strengthen the foundation of our sport and ensure a bright future for ownership. Looking ahead, we have an exciting calendar of seasonal events in store:

  • This weekend, the ROA will be at the Rooted Market at Randjesfontein, highlighting the Betway Summer Cup. Entry is free to all ROA members so please do come and say hi!
  • On September 24th, we will host the ROA Family Fun and Braai Day at Randjesfontein. All ROA members and their families are welcome. It will be a wonderful opportunity to mingle, network, and engage in a relaxed and festive environment – all compliments of the ROA. More details will follow in the week ahead.

A gentle reminder to all our members: please ensure your membership is renewed before the end of August. Your continued support is what keeps our Association strong and able to serve the interests of owners across the board.

From thrilling racedays to family-friendly gatherings, our mission remains to create experiences that connect members and celebrate the joy of racing.
