Rise and Shine Breakfast with the ROA

Despite the crisp winter chill on Sunday, 20 July, the spirit of the racing community was anything but cold at the ROA’s Rise and Shine Breakfast event at Randjesfontein. Taking place at sunrise, the gathering saw a strong turnout from enthusiastic owners, trainers, and racing lovers, all eager to connect and enjoy a unique morning at the track.

Attendees were treated to the comforting aroma of fresh brews and hearty breakfasts served from local food trucks, adding warmth to the brisk morning air. As the sun peeked over the horizon, the track came alive with the sight of horses in motion, offering guests a behind-the-scenes glimpse of their morning workouts. ROA members and newcomers alike mingled freely, enjoying the opportunity to connect outside of a raceday environment.

Gary Talbot said, “It was certainly a gratifying experience see what the former Club House facility has been upgraded and renovated to, that it’s being put to good use that I hope the owners/trainers use, and for other opportunities to become realities that will open up for this venue going forward. I recalled the many breakfasts on Saturdays after stable visits and Friday afternoons that I had spent at this venue in years gone by.”

Jaykamal Issur added, “This was an outstanding event, and we cannot wait for events hosted by the ROA in the future.”

Nwabisa Titus, a first-time visitor to Randjesfontein and guest of the ROA community, expressed deep appreciation for the great hospitality. She added that the time taken by other owners, patrons and ROA representatives to really immerse her and her family in the behind-the- scenes aspect of this amazing sport was something very special. They cannot wait to learn more.

he ROA extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who braved the cold to make this event a success. The camaraderie and shared passion for racing made for a memorable morning. Be sure to keep an eye out for our next Rise and Shine Breakfast, set to return in the spring/summer season at other racetracks, with sunshine, more smiles, and of course, more racing action.

Thank you to The Acreage Venue for providing us with lovely hospitality, warm blankets, heaters inside the restaurant and a jumping castle for the kids to have fun. We would also like to thank JC Photographics for coming to capture the special moments.
