ROA Life Member Introduction
The Racehorse Owners Association is delighted to announce that four members have achieved Life Member status this year. This honour is awarded in recognition of 25 years of uninterrupted membership, and these individuals form an important part of the ROA’s history, strength, and continued success.
Each of them have demonstrated unwavering dedication to the Association, the sport of horseracing, and the wider industry. Their longstanding commitment has contributed meaningfully to the growth and development of the ROA and has helped strengthen the broader racing community.

Jessica Jell
Jessica Jell’s lifelong passion for horse racing and breeding is deeply rooted in family tradition and a love for the Thoroughbred industry. Through Mauritzfontein and various racing partnerships, she has enjoyed success both in South Africa and internationally, campaigning numerous top-class performers including Smart Call, Nother Russia, Gimme A Nother, Summer Pudding, Laurelin and the 2025 Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup winner, Mocha Blend. Actively involved in breeding, racing administration and industry development, Jessica’s dedication, enthusiasm and contribution to South African racing is truly inspiring.

Andrea Puggia
Andrea Puggia has been a passionate supporter of racing for decades, with a love for the sport that began in his youth and continues to this day. A Racehorse Owners Association member since 2001 and currently serving as a Director on the ROA Board, he has enjoyed success as an owner and syndicate partner, notably with horses such as FireAlley and Joy and Peace. Respected for his loyalty, sportsmanship and unwavering commitment to the sport, Andrea exemplifies the spirit of racehorse ownership and contribution to the industry.

Advocate Mannie Witz
Advocate Mannie Witz has combined a distinguished legal career spanning nearly five decades with a lifelong passion for horseracing. His involvement in the sport began during his national service years and has since encompassed racehorse ownership, legal representation of jockeys, trainers and industry participants, and longstanding membership of the Racehorse Owners Association. Over the years he has enjoyed success with numerous horses, formed enduring friendships with many of racing’s leading personalities, and played a valuable role in supporting the sport. He currently holds shares in the Fabian Habib stable, where Ain’t No Doubt and Bellerophon both look to be promising horses for the future. We thank him for his longstanding and unwavering support.
Life Members are warmly recognized for their loyalty, commitment, and enduring contribution. Their passion continues to inspire others and reflects the lasting rewards of racehorse ownership.
