ROA Rise and Shine Breakfast at Turffontein

There’s something truly special about the stillness of early morning at Turffontein Racecourse. When the world is just waking up, the city skyline glows gold, and the rhythmic sound of hooves breaks the silence. On this unforgettable morning, racehorse owners gathered for the ROA’s Rise and Shine Track Work Experience, an event that beautifully blended passion, community, and the pure thrill of the sport.

Owners looked on with pride as their horses thundered down the track stretched out in full stride, galloping gracefully against the backdrop of the iconic city skyline. It was a scene both peaceful and electric, a perfect harmony between nature, athleticism, and the urban spirit of Joburg.

Following the track work, guests gathered for a delicious complimentary breakfast, where conversations flowed easily and connections were made over steaming coffee, fresh pastries and a warm breakfast. The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed, a true celebration of shared passion, where long-time owners mingled with newcomers discovering the magic of racing for the first time.

The morning also featured giveaways and social activities, part of the ROA’s continued commitment to elevating every aspect of racehorse ownership. With initiatives like these, the ROA isn’t just celebrating existing owners, it is inviting new faces and fresh energy into the sport.

With perfect weather and that unmistakable Joburg spirit in the air, the morning was a celebration of everything that makes Turffontein and its horses so special. Because truly — there’s nothing quite like a Jozi sunrise, nothing quite like watching it from the rail, with your horse in full flight and nothing quite like being part of the ROA family.

We had such a fantastic morning at the Racehorse Owners Association breakfast, held at Turffontein on Sat 25 Oct! Great cappuccinos, amazing breakfast, and the best view!  It is quite special watching the horses exercise early in the morning, it deepens your appreciation for the sport and the incredible amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. Loved chatting with trainers and fellow racing friends, and the ROA team made everyone feel so welcome. All in all, it was a relaxed, enjoyable, and inspiring morning that I would highly recommend.

Thank you, ROA – I cannot wait for the next one!

Food was amazing 👏 we haven’t done this for years and normally only Randjes or Summerveld back in the day. It was a super amazing experience and very well morning spent!
