The ROA and 4Racing at the SA Champs at Inanda Country Base
The South African Eventing Championships, held on the 8th and 9th of November at the picturesque Inanda Country Base, brought together an inspiring display of horsemanship, passion, and the remarkable versatility of equine athletes. Riders from across the country competed with horses of various breeds across the demanding disciplines of showjumping and cross-country, showcasing their dedication, trust, and countless hours of hard work.
Among the competitors were several off-the-track thoroughbreds (OTTBs), whose performances lit up the arenas and stirred admiration among spectators. These former racehorses, who are now thriving in new careers, proved exactly why the thoroughbred remains one of the most beloved partners in competitive sport. Their athleticism, courage, and eagerness to please were on full display as they soared through the showjumping arenas and boldly navigated challenging cross-country courses.

A particularly special highlight of the weekend was the overall victory by Liam Emmett and his talented thoroughbred Big Parade, a gelding by Dynasty out of Flirtation. Adding to the significance of this achievement is Big Parade’s remarkable lineage of his dam, Flirtation, famously won the Grade 1 Summer Cup in 2010 and the Grade 3 Yellowwood Handicap in 2010, and was victorious in the Grade 2 Coloraado King Stakes in 2012. Seeing a descendant of such a celebrated racehorse excel in a completely different discipline beautifully underscores the versatility and heart of thoroughbreds.

The Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) and 4Racing were proud to attend the event, celebrating the achievements of these remarkable horses. Throughout the weekend, the ROA and 4Racing teams engaged with riders and spectators, providing detailed information on the competing thoroughbreds, including their racing histories and bloodlines. Many riders expressed their deep affection for thoroughbreds, praising their heart, versatility, and natural talent for eventing and other equestrian disciplines.

The event offered a powerful reminder of the importance of second careers for racehorses and the meaningful bonds they form with new owners once their time on the track has ended. Seeing former racehorses thriving, loved, and excelling in competitive environments reinforces the long-term commitment so many in the industry share toward horse welfare and responsible aftercare.
The ROA and 4Racing were also delighted to contribute to the event through sponsorship and the distribution of special goodie bags for the winners in each class. These included General Access tickets to the 2025 Betway Summer Cup, a copy of Gold Under Their Hooves, a bottle of wine, lip ice, mints, and branded pens.

We are thrilled to support events such as the South African Eventing Championships and remain deeply proud of every racehorse that goes on to live a fulfilling, successful second career. Their journeys are a testament not only to their incredible spirit, but also to the owners, riders, and supporters who give them every opportunity to shine.
