Puerto Manzano (ARG) – Life After Racing
After a stellar racing career, Puerto Manzano (ARG) has officially retired from the track and is now enjoying a well-deserved second chapter in life. The accomplished thoroughbred, who ran his final race in the 2024 Betway Summer Cup, has found his forever home under the devoted care of Victoria “Vikki” Lerena.
Vikki shared that her bond with the gelding began while he was still in training with Johan Janse van Vuuren. “I used to ride Puerto Manzano at track and just fell in love with him,” she said. She then reached out to owner Laurence Wernars with a heartfelt request to give Puerto Manzano a home once his racing days were over.
Now settled in at Saddlebrook Estate with Vikki’s close friend, Kyla Brimacombe, Puerto Manzano is thriving in retirement. “He has settled in so beautifully,” Vikki beamed. “He goes on outrides, has started popping over a few jumps, and in time will begin attending training shows. He really enjoys jumping, but I’m taking it slowly with him.”
Known for his calm and kind temperament, Puerto Manzano has quickly become a family favorite. “Even my daughter rides him,” Vikki added. “He is an absolute gem, and we love him to bits!”
Puerto Manzano’s story is a heartwarming reminder that life after racing can be filled with love, purpose, and plenty of happy adventures.
