The ROA celebrated Human Rights Day weekend in the Eastern Cape with a Charity Raceday and Member breakfast.

The atmosphere at Fairview Racecourse was cheerful on Human Rights Day. The East Cape Horse Care Unit Charity event was a resounding success, bringing together sponsors, racing enthusiasts, and a spirit of generosity. Many sponsors came forward to support the Eastern Cape Horse Care Unit, making valuable donations to aid in the welfare of horses in need. Carla from the Horse Care Unit and Dorrie Sham, the sponsor organizer, were overwhelmed and thankful for the donations which amounted to an impressive R420 000.

Some of the sponsors included the Racehorse Owners Association, Hollywoodbets, World Sports Betting, New Turf Carriers, Bryanston Auctioneers, Mining Pressure Systems and Blue Crane Vineyards. Stud farms also supported the event include Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein, Ridgemont, Ascot Stud, Birch Bros, Jane Thomas and Narrow Creek Stud.

Adding to the excitement of the day, two listed races were run, showcasing top-tier talent on the track. Richard Fourie and Alan Greeff formed an unstoppable duo, securing victory in the Mining Pressure Systems East Cape Sprint Cup aboard Fairy Knight and the Bryanston Auctioneers East Cape Guineas with My Best Shot.

It was a wonderful day out in Gqeberha with exciting races, generous contributions and cheerful spirits. A huge thank you to all of the kind sponsors and donors on the day for their support.

The Racehorse Owners Association then hosted a stable visit and breakfast the next morning at Fairview Racecourse. Members were able to visit their horses and watch some early morning track work before enjoying a delicious breakfast. This event was enjoyed by all and we look forward to hosting many more events of this nature in the coming months.
